Russia Closes Polish Consulate in St. Petersburg in Retaliation

Russia announced on Thursday that it has decided to close Poland’s consulate general in St. Petersburg in response to Poland’s recent closure of the Russian consulate in Poznan. The move is part of an escalating diplomatic tension between the two countries.

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry also declared three members of the Polish consulate’s diplomatic staff “persona non grata,” demanding that they leave Russia by a specified date. The statement further emphasized that Moscow has taken and will continue to take strong retaliatory measures against any unfriendly actions directed toward Russia.

This decision reflects the ongoing deterioration of relations between Russia and Poland, with both countries taking reciprocal actions that have fueled diplomatic strains in recent months.
