Russia Begins Mass Production of New Oreshnik Missile System, Putin Announces

MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Monday that Russia is launching mass production of its newest intermediate-range missile system, the Oreshnik, which he said had demonstrated strong performance in combat conditions.
“Volume production of the newest intermediate-range missile system Oreshnik, which has proved itself very well in combat conditions, is being started,” Putin stated during a meeting with military academy graduates.
The announcement comes months after Putin first revealed the missile system’s deployment. On November 21, 2024, in response to Western long-range strikes on Russian territory, Moscow launched the Oreshnik for the first time—targeting Ukraine’s Yuzhmash defense industry plant with a non-nuclear warhead.
