Russia and Iran to Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement, Emphasizing Defense Cooperation

Russia and Iran are set to solidify their ties through a new strategic partnership agreement, focusing heavily on defense cooperation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed the upcoming signing during the second Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, highlighting that the agreement will enhance bilateral relations and support joint interests in regional and global peace.
Lavrov underscored the treaty as a cornerstone for deepening Russian-Iranian defense collaboration. “This partnership will confirm our shared commitment to closer cooperation in defense and contribute to security at both regional and global levels,” he stated.
The announcement follows recent developments at the October 23 BRICS summit in Kazan, where Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the imminent treaty with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, noted that the signing will take place during President Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit to Russia, underscoring the strategic importance both nations place on this evolving alliance.
