President Xi Jinping meets PM Giorgia Melonia to resume bilateral economic cooperation

BEIJING – China’s president Xi Jinping met with the Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Beijing’s Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, where they addressed important global governance issues, “from artificial intelligence to the fight against climate change and the UN Security Council reform.”

President Xi called on both sides to maintain “friendly exchanges,” as well as respecting each other’s development paths, and urged Rome and Beijing to “uphold the spirit of the Silk Road”, so that East-West relations could “rebound into a new era.”

“Beijing welcomes Italian companies that invest in China and is willing to import more high-quality Italian products,” he added.

On her side, PM Meloni said: “There is growing insecurity at an international level and I think that China is inevitably a very important interlocutor to address all these dynamics,” and that the two nations need to work together to establish peace and security.
