President Tebboune: Algeria will become an emerging country on par with Southern European countries

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that Algeria will become an emerging country within two years at most, reaching the level of Southern European nations.

In an interview with the French newspaper L’Opinion, President Tebboune said, “In perhaps no more than two years, Algeria will be an emerging country on par with Southern European nations, with a GDP exceeding $400 billion.”

He outlined Algeria’s strategy to achieve this goal in line with his electoral commitments, saying, “By the beginning of 2027 at the latest, we will have completed our program to build 3.5 million housing units—2 million of which have already been delivered—and we will have resolved the water issue. We will also have significantly reduced the importation of raw materials for our factories.”

The objective is “to manufacture as many products as possible locally,” he said, adding that “Algeria will become one of the largest exporters of phosphate and its derivatives, and we will focus on developing solar energy and producing green hydrogen, a new resource that will enhance Algeria’s industrial appeal.”

In the interview, President Tebboune explained that this strategy will strengthen Algeria’s ability to supply energy to Europe while also boosting the country’s food security and mobilising additional water resources.
