Polisario Reaffirms Sahrawi People’s Determination to Pursue Independence Struggle

BIR LEHLOU – Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, representative to the United Nations, and coordinator with MINURSO, reaffirmed the Sahrawi people’s unwavering commitment to continue their liberation struggle until achieving full independence and restoring sovereignty over the entire territory of Western Sahara.

Speaking to Sahrawi Television, Sidi Mohamed Omar highlighted the growing international support expressed at the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (Committee of 24), where countries from across the globe voiced solidarity with the Sahrawi cause and renewed their calls to end colonization in Africa’s last remaining colony. He also noted that the issue of human rights in the occupied Sahrawi territories was strongly addressed, with interventions condemning Morocco’s continued occupation.

Commenting on the stalled UN-led peace process, Omar attributed the deadlock to the obstructionist stance of the Moroccan occupying state and the reluctance of certain influential members of the UN Security Council, which enables Morocco to maintain its illegal occupation. Despite current global tensions and crises, he stressed that the Sahrawi people remain resolute in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and national sovereignty.
