Polisario Front Calls for Adherence to International Legitimacy

The Polisario Front has asserted that resolving the situation in occupied Western Sahara necessitates the “strict and firm implementation” of international legitimacy resolutions affirming the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, as reported by the Sahrawi news agency (SAS) on Tuesday.

In a statement concluding the proceedings of the Permanent Bureau meeting of its National Secretariat, led by Secretary-General of the Front and President of the Sahrawi Republic Ibrahim Ghali, the Polisario Front reaffirmed that “the resolution of the current situation and the ongoing conflict, which has persisted since 1975 when Spain relinquished its responsibilities toward its former colony Western Sahara, along with Morocco’s insistence on maintaining its unlawful occupation, can only be achieved through the literal and stringent implementation of international legitimacy resolutions.”

The statement emphasized that these international decisions “grant the Sahrawi people exclusive authority to determine their self-determination and establish the final status regarding sovereignty and management of the region’s natural resources,” declaring any interference in these matters to be “an unwarranted intrusion, both legally, politically, diplomatically, and on the ground.”

In this context, the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front emphasized the “obligatory responsibility” of the United Nations to actively pursue and complete the decolonization process of Western Sahara, thus enabling the Sahrawi people to fully exercise their right to self-determination and independence.
