PLO Executive Committee Reaffirms UNRWA’s Sole Responsibility for Aid to Palestinian Refugees

RAMALLAH — The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) stressed on Tuesday that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) remains the sole authority responsible for the delivery and distribution of aid to Palestinian refugees. This reaffirmation came during a high-level meeting addressing escalating Zionist settler violence, political developments, and the humanitarian crisis across Palestinian territories.
In a statement issued following the meeting, the Committee strongly condemned the acts of sabotage, land expropriation, forced displacement, and extrajudicial killings carried out by Zionist settlers in the West Bank with the support of Zionist occupation forces. It also denounced the transformation of Palestinian civilian homes into military outposts, describing these actions as part of a broader campaign of silent annexation under the far-right Zionist government.
Turning to Gaza, the Committee highlighted the catastrophic humanitarian situation, where the population, including infants, is being deprived of the most basic necessities. It called on the international community to enforce an immediate ceasefire and ensure the unhindered entry and fair distribution of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip.
The Committee further warned of the deepening fiscal crisis facing the Palestinian Authority (PA), urging the international community to stop the zionist entity’s withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues. It called on Arab states to fulfill their financial commitments to support the PA and approved the formation of a national legal team to confront Zionist lawsuits seeking compensation from the PLO and PA. The team will also work on a broader legal strategy to protect Palestinian public funds and national rights.
