Palestinian National Council Welcomes UN General Assembly Resolution Demanding Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

The Palestinian National Council (PNC) on Friday welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the PNC hailed the resolution, passed late Thursday, which strongly condemns the use of starvation as a method of warfare and urges an end to the blockade imposed by the Zionist occupation on the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The resolution, introduced by 23 countries, was adopted during the General Assembly’s Tenth Emergency Special Session, with 149 member states voting in favor, 12 against, and 19 abstaining. The PNC said the overwhelming support reflects the collective will of the international community and underscores the growing political and moral isolation of the Zionist entity, which continues to commit war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza under the guise of siege, starvation, and systematic destruction.

The PNC emphasized the significance of the resolution’s provision holding the Zionist occupation fully responsible for the catastrophic situation in Gaza and demanding the immediate lifting of the unjust blockade. The resolution also calls for the opening of all border crossings and the broad delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Strip.

The Council further praised the resolution’s reaffirmation of the two-state solution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, aiming to end the Zionist occupation of Palestinian land and establish an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state.

In this context, the PNC stressed that these international stances strengthen the Palestinian position in global forums and reiterate that the occupation cannot continue without accountability. It also highlighted the resilience and sacrifices of the Palestinian people, which have succeeded in breaking the international silence and bringing the Palestinian cause back to the forefront of global attention.

The PNC called on the international community to translate this resolution into concrete actions on the ground, hold the occupation accountable for its violations, and work earnestly to end the occupation in all its forms, fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people for freedom, independence, and the establishment of their state with Jerusalem as its capital.
