Nine Palestinian-Americans File Lawsuit Against U.S. Government Over Gaza Genocide

Nine Palestinian-Americans filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government on Thursday, accusing it of neglecting to assist them or their families trapped in Gaza, where over 45,000 Palestinians have been killed, and a severe humanitarian crisis is unfolding.
The lawsuit targets the U.S. State Department, alleging discrimination against Palestinian-Americans by failing to make the same evacuation efforts for them as it does for citizens of other backgrounds in similar conflict zones. It cites past evacuations of Americans from places like Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Sudan as examples of U.S. efforts to protect its citizens abroad.
This marks the second lawsuit filed against the U.S. government this week, following a similar legal action by Palestinian families on Tuesday, accusing the State Department of supporting the Zionist occupation’s military actions in Gaza.
A spokesperson for the State Department declined to comment on the ongoing lawsuits but reiterated that ensuring the safety of American citizens worldwide remains a top priority.
The lawsuit, announced by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and attorney Maria Kari, argues that the Palestinian-Americans were denied their constitutional right to equal protection under the law. It points to the U.S. government’s failure to provide the same evacuation assistance to Palestinian-Americans that it extended to others in times of crisis.
In a separate case, five Palestinian plaintiffs from Gaza, the West Bank, and the U.S. filed a lawsuit accusing the State Department of bypassing the “Leahy Law,” which prohibits U.S. military assistance to foreign military units accused of human rights violations. The lawsuit highlights the U.S.’s continued support for the Zionist occupation forces, despite allegations of war crimes and genocide.
As the U.S. faces increasing criticism for its unwavering support for the Zionist entity, these legal challenges call into question its role in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
