MANILA – The Philippines has detected three new cases of mpox, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to eight, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) announced on Sunday.

Two of the new confirmed mpox cases of 29 and 34 years old were detected in Metro Manila, and another 29-year-old man found in the Calabarzon region. All three have the milder MPXV clade II, according to DOH.

Health Department spokesperson Albert Domingo added that with the detection of these new cases, the Philippines now has a total of 17 cases since July 2022.

“Nine cases have already recovered since 2023. Eight are active cases awaiting the resolution of symptoms,” Mr. Domingo said.

The Department of Health will continue to track individuals who have had close contact with the active patients, he added.
