Mexico’s Sheinbaum holds 78% approval rating

MEXICO CITY – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum holds a 78% approval rating, a poll published on Monday by newspaper El Financiero showed, as the leftist leader nears 100 days in office.
Residents rated Sheinbaum, the first female president in Mexico’s history, favourably in social aid programs and economic matters, while opinions were less favourable in her handling of public safety and corruption.
The poll, with a margin of error of 3.5%, surveyed 800 adults by telephone between Dec. 12 and 31.
Sheinbaum’s 100th day in office will be Thursday. Of those polled, 36% viewed her administration so far as “better than expected,” while 42% saw her “exactly as expected.”
Sheinbaum, the mentee of former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, won Mexico’s June 2 elections by a landslide.
