Lavrov: Riyadh Talks Focused on Black Sea Security, US and Russian Presidents Briefed

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that the presidents of Russia and the United States are being briefed on the results of the recent negotiations in Riyadh. The discussions primarily revolved around ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea, with Russia advocating for a revised Black Sea Initiative that is more acceptable to all parties.
Lavrov highlighted Russia’s concerns over food security in African and Global South nations, which he attributed to Western economic maneuvers. He also stressed Russia’s determination to maintain its position in the grain and fertilizer markets without external interference. During the talks, Russia emphasized the need for clear terms in any renewed maritime agreements.
Regarding Ukraine, Lavrov asserted that guarantees for Russia could only be dictated by Washington, as Kiev operates under US direction. He criticized Western military aid, arguing that Ukraine would have been defeated long ago without arms supplies from London and Paris. Lavrov also condemned the US for escalating tensions by pushing for Kiev’s NATO accession, likening the West’s attempts to weaken Russia to past failed ambitions of Napoleon and Hitler.
