Japan Approves Record 2025 Budget Amid Regional Threats and Aging Population

The Japanese government has approved a record budget for the upcoming fiscal year, with increased military spending aimed at countering regional threats and a boosted social security allocation to address the challenges of an aging population.

The Ministry of Defense stated in a report that Japan is facing “the most difficult and complex security environment” since World War II, echoing similar remarks made by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

This budget reflects the growing need for Japan to strengthen its defense capabilities while ensuring sufficient resources to support its elderly population, as the country grapples with demographic shifts and rising security concerns in the region.
