Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has criticized NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for his remarks regarding global security, accusing him of inciting further instability in the world, particularly in Europe.
In a post on his X account, Baghaei responded to Rutte’s comments on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, asserting that Rutte’s statements set the agenda for the new U.S. administration in a troubling way.
Baghaei argued that Rutte’s call for intensified militancy by framing the world in a polarized manner was irresponsible and detrimental. He went on to hold Rutte accountable for the growing insecurity affecting Europe and beyond, linking it to the “egocentric and totalitarianist policies” of certain NATO members. His statement highlighted that such rhetoric only contributes to escalating tensions in the global political landscape.
Rutte’s controversial comments, made in an interview with The Financial Times, warned that if Trump pressures Ukraine into a peace agreement that favors Russia, it could lead to increased threats from China, Iran, and North Korea. Baghaei’s response emphasizes Iran’s disapproval of NATO’s role in exacerbating global instability.
