Iran Suspends Indirect Talks with the US Amid Regional Tensions, Says Foreign Minister Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, currently visiting Muscat, announced that indirect talks between Iran and the United States, mediated by Oman, have been suspended due to the prevailing situation in the region. Speaking in Muscat on Monday, Araghchi acknowledged Oman’s longstanding role in facilitating dialogue, particularly through its efforts to mediate these discussions.
He stated, “Currently, the Muscat process is on hold due to specific regional circumstances, and we do not see grounds for these discussions until we can overcome the ongoing crisis.” Araghchi emphasized that a decision regarding re-engagement in talks will be made once the current crisis is addressed.
When questioned about whether any messages were relayed to the Americans during his visit, Araghchi clarified that there had been no contact with U.S. officials on this trip. He reiterated Iran’s position of not seeking war in the region, but assured that the country is fully prepared for any potential scenarios. “We believe that diplomacy should work to prevent that from happening,” he noted, underscoring Iran’s commitment to dialogue while remaining vigilant amid rising tensions.
