Iran Slams U.S. Strike on Nuclear Facilities as ‘Betrayal of Diplomacy’

TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Wednesday condemned the United States’ military strike on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities as a “betrayal of diplomacy,” calling it a grave violation of international law and a direct attack on the global non-proliferation regime.

In a phone conversation with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald O. Lamola, Araqchi discussed the regional fallout following the recent cessation of U.S. and Zionist military aggression against Iran. He praised South Africa’s firm position in condemning the attacks, particularly Zionist strikes, which he described as “illegal and terrorist acts carried out with impunity.”

Araqchi stressed that the Zionist entity’s aggression against Iran took place while negotiations with the United States were still ongoing, accusing Washington of direct involvement by later launching its own strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. “This was an unprecedented attack against the rule of law and the principles of the international non-proliferation regime,” he said, adding that all nations supporting or justifying Zionist actions bear responsibility for its crimes.

Both diplomats also condemned the atrocities committed by the Zionist entity in Gaza and called on the international community to urgently respond to what they described as genocide and gross violations of Palestinian human rights.
