Iran Protests Trump’s Military Threats in Letter to UN Security Council

Iran has formally protested against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of military strikes by sending a letter to the United Nations Security Council. The letter, written by Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, was addressed to Security Council President Fu Cong, with a copy sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
In the letter, Iran denounced Trump’s remarks, citing statements where he suggested military action as an alternative to a deal with Iran. Iran argued that such threats violate international law and the UN Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits the use of force against sovereign states. The letter also criticized the U.S. administration’s “maximum pressure” policy, describing it as an unlawful escalation of hostility against Iran.
Iran called on the UN Security Council to take a firm stance against what it described as reckless rhetoric, warning that any act of aggression would have severe consequences for which the U.S. would be fully responsible. Iran reaffirmed its commitment to defending its sovereignty and urged the Security Council to circulate the letter as an official document.
