Indonesia Aims to Boost Investment Presence in Africa Through Quality Partnerships with Algeria

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met on Monday with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Algeria, Chalief Akbar Tjandraningrat, to discuss ways to develop Algerian-Indonesian cooperation in the fields of hydrocarbons and mining.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, the Director General of Pertamina Algeria, and a number of senior officials from both sides, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines said in a statement.
The two parties exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between companies from both countries, particularly in light of the growing interest from Indonesian firms in investing in Algeria, such as Pertamina and Pupuk, the statement said.
The discussions covered several key areas, including enhancing cooperation between Sonatrach Group and Pertamina in the fields of oil and gas production as well as crude oil marketing. Additionally, they reviewed an investment plan presented by Pupuk Indonesia, a leading company in the chemical and fertilizer industries, which expressed interest in developing joint projects in Algeria’s phosphate and gas sectors, the source said, adding that “this collaboration promises new opportunities for local manufacturing and increased value addition.”
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance and develop cooperation in the mining sector in general, particularly in the areas of exploitation, processing, and marketing of phosphate, as well as the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources such as lithium, in addition to strengthening dialogue and cooperation regarding supply chains and sustainable manufacturing of critical raw materials and rare metals, along with exchanging experiences and expertise in the fields of hydrocarbons and mining, the statement added.
During the meeting, Minister Arkab emphasized Algeria’s commitment to building balanced and fruitful strategic partnerships with friendly countries, based on the principle of mutual benefit, technology transfer, and the valorization of national resources. He also highlighted the importance of openness to successful international experiences, such as the Indonesian experience in developing processing industries related to mining and hydrocarbons.
For his part, the Indonesian Ambassador expressed his country’s appreciation for the available cooperation opportunities in Algeria, affirming that Indonesia seeks to strengthen its investment presence in Africa through quality partnerships with Algeria, which represents a trusted partner thanks to its stability, rich natural resources, and investment-friendly legal frameworks.
