India: Algeria’s Army General Saïd Chanegriha visits Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL)

Algeria’s Army General Saïd Chanegriha, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), visited Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Thursday, marking the second day of his official visit to India, as stated in a release from the Algerian Ministry of National Defense.

“During the second day of his official visit to the Republic of India, at the invitation of Army General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, Army General Saïd Chanegriha visited Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on February 6, 2025,” the statement noted.

Upon arrival, he was received by the Director of the shipyard. Following this, General Chanegriha toured an exhibition featuring photographs and models that highlight the company’s shipbuilding activities. The exhibition included archival images depicting various stages of the development of India’s shipbuilding industry, as well as technical plans and schematics showcasing the technologies used in constructing modern vessels, the statement added.

After the tour, the Director provided General Chanegriha and his accompanying delegation with an in-depth presentation on the various missions, departments, and production capabilities of this significant industrial facility. The General also received insights from engineers and military experts regarding the materials utilized, the weapon systems employed, and both the defensive and offensive capabilities of the ships. This was followed by an exchange of symbolic gifts between the General and the Director.

Subsequently, General Chanegriha inspected the different workshops within the shipyard, where he received detailed explanations about the working methods and advanced technologies implemented at the facility.

The General then proceeded to the naval air base in Goa, where he was greeted by the Base Commander, Rear Admiral Ajay D. Theophilus. After the welcoming ceremony, the General received comprehensive explanations about the operational missions of the base and its strategic role in safeguarding India’s territorial waters and airspace.

“The discussions particularly emphasized the surveillance, control, and coordination systems between naval and air forces during joint mission execution,” the communiqué highlighted.

In conclusion, Army General Saïd Chanegriha and Rear Admiral Ajay D. Theophilus exchanged symbolic gifts, as confirmed by the source.
