ICRC Suspends Operations in Gaza City Amid Zionist Escalation

The intensification of military aggression by the Zionist entity in Gaza City has forced the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to temporarily suspend its activities at the city office and relocate staff to southern Gaza. The humanitarian organization stressed that the move aims to safeguard staff while maintaining its capacity to provide assistance in the besieged enclave.
In a statement, the ICRC described the catastrophic conditions facing tens of thousands of civilians still trapped in Gaza City, where people are being killed, forcibly displaced, and left in dire need of aid. It highlighted the relentless efforts of the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Civil Defence teams, who have continued to risk their lives despite severe restrictions on their movement and access to vulnerable populations.
The ICRC affirmed that its offices in Deir al-Balah and Rafah remain fully operational, pledging to continue delivering medical supplies to the few remaining health facilities in Gaza City and to facilitate the movement of first responders. It noted that its Rafah field hospital remains a critical lifeline for the growing number of wounded patients, while additional efforts have included supplying hospitals with emergency medical kits, supporting bakeries in displacement camps to produce 45,000 loaves of bread daily, and providing water and sanitation assistance.
The organization stressed that a cessation of hostilities is “imperative and urgent,” reminding the Zionist entity of its obligations under international humanitarian law as the occupying power to protect civilians and ensure their basic needs are met. It further called for the protection of medical personnel, civil defence units, and the immediate, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid across Gaza.
