Guinea Floods Claim 38 Lives, Leave Hundreds Homeless

A tragic toll of thirty-eight (38) lives lost, 219 injuries, and one person reported missing has emerged from the recent floods that have struck Guinea since the onset of the rainy season, according to local authorities. The report, which covers the period from June 28 to August 5, reveals that hundreds of families have been left homeless due to the collapse of numerous houses, as detailed in a press release shared by regional media.

“Since the beginning of this rainy season, our country has been grappling with recurring floods that have resulted in substantial material and human losses,” Guinean officials stated, emphasizing the vulnerability of populated areas to climatic hazards.

The prefecture of Siguiri has been particularly hard hit by these adverse weather conditions, suffering two confirmed fatalities and extensive property damage caused by torrential rains last week. Guinea is no stranger to devastating flooding each year, as heavy rains persist throughout the rainy season.
