German Police: Ex-Ukraine Commander Ordered Nord Stream Sabotage

The crew of the yacht Andromeda, allegedly linked to the 2022 blasts on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, acted on the direct orders of former Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny, according to a report by the German newspaper Welt. Citing an unnamed investigator, the paper said German federal police are convinced they have solved the case.

The Nord Stream explosions occurred on September 26, 2022, damaging critical gas infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. Germany, Denmark, and Sweden quickly suspected sabotage, while Russia opened an international terrorism case. Moscow has consistently criticized the investigations, pointing out that it has been denied access to data and findings.

Russian Security Council official Nikolai Patrushev recently dismissed theories suggesting that a small group of Ukrainian operatives could have carried out such a complex attack. He argued the sabotage bore the hallmark of NATO intelligence agencies. Meanwhile, details reaching the public have come largely through selective leaks to the media, fueling widespread skepticism over the credibility of the official narrative.
