Georgia: Ruling party wins legislative elections

TBILISI – The ruling party in Georgia, Georgian Dream, has won the legislative elections, the Electoral Commission announced on Sunday.

Georgian Dream secured 54.08% of the votes, compared to 37.58% for the opposition coalition, according to the count conducted in over 99% of the constituencies, as stated by Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, during a press conference.

Georgians went to the polls on Saturday for the legislative elections to renew all 150 seats in Parliament. This is a proportional representation election conducted under the observation of monitors from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
