Gaza ceasefire to come into effect on Sunday morning, 120 martyrs since Wednesday

The ceasefire in Gaza will come into effect on Sunday at 08:30 am (06:30 GMT), Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced in a post on X.

“We advise our brothers to take precautions, exercise utmost caution, and wait instructions from official sources,” the ministry said on Saturday.

In the early hours of Saturday, after meeting for more than six hours, the Zionist cabinet ratified the agreement for a ceasefire that will end the 15-month-old genocidal war on the Palestinian enclave.

In Gaza, “Israeli” warplanes have kept up heavy attacks since the ceasefire deal was agreed. Medics in Gaza said an occupation’s airstrike early on Saturday killed five people in a tent in the Mawasi area west of Khan Younis in the enclave’s south.

This brings the toll of martyrs to almost 120 Palestinians amid recurrent “Israeli” bombardment since the accord was announced on Wednesday.

Under the deal, the three-stage ceasefire starts with an initial six-week phase when captives will be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners and detainees jailed in the Zionist entity.

In the meantime, the Palestinian Authority announced its readiness to assume its “full responsibilities” in the Gaza Strip following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

The Zionist occupation’s genocidal war on Gaza has resulted in at least 46,876 Palestinian martyrs and 110,642 wounded since October 7, 2023.

Besides the “Israeli” airstrikes, Gaza civilians have faced a humanitarian crisis due to famine, cold, and sickness. The ceasefire agreement calls for a surge in assistance, and international organisations have aid trucks lined up on Gaza’s borders to bring in food, fuel, medicine, and other vital supplies, which were blocked by the occupation forces.

Palestinian relief agency UNRWA said on Friday that it has 4,000 truckloads of aid, half of which are food, ready to enter the coastal strip.

Palestinians waiting for food in the southern Gaza Strip said they hoped a truce would mean an end to hours of queuing to fill one plate.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said it plans to bring ready-made hospitals into the Gaza Strip within the next two months after the ceasefire.

Still, with less than 24 hours until a ceasefire takes effect in Gaza, the Zionist occupation forces are likely to intensify bombardment across the besieged enclave, as has been the case in the past.
