Football : The Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer retires

GENEVA – Swiss international goalkeeper Yann Sommer announced on Monday his retirement from the national team with which he began his career in 2012.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my career as the goalkeeper for the Swiss national team. It has been a great honour and privilege for me to represent my country at the highest level for twelve years, over 94 international matches,” he said in a press release from the Swiss Football Association (ASF).
“With the conclusion of a magnificent new final phase at the European Championship in neighbouring Germany, where I previously spent unforgettable years in the Bundesliga, the time has come for me to say goodbye,” he added.
Sommer (35 years old) retires as the most-capped goalkeeper in Swiss national team history and will henceforward focus on his club, Inter Milan, according to the ASF.
