EU Countries Expresse Confusion Over Trump’s Statements on Greenland and Panama Canal

Germany’s European partners have expressed confusion following recent remarks by US President-elect Donald Trump regarding Greenland and the Panama Canal, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Wednesday.
During discussions with European leaders and the president of the European Council, Scholz noted the concern over Trump’s renewed claims on Greenland, which he called “an absolute necessity” for the United States. Trump first raised the idea during his first presidential term in 2019 and reiterated his interest after winning the 2024 election.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Trump stated he was not considering military action to acquire Canada but left open the possibility for Greenland or the Panama Canal, further fueling apprehension among European leaders about US intentions under his leadership.
