Earthquake in Myanmar: Death Toll Rises to 144, Over 700 Injured (Updated)

A powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday has resulted in the deaths of at least 144 people, with another 700 injured, according to recent media reports.
These sources indicate that the quake caused “significant damage” to various structures, including the historic fortress in Mandalay, and led to the collapse of numerous buildings in the surrounding area.
Earlier reports confirmed at least 10 fatalities resulting from the collapse of a mosque in Mandalay during the earthquake.
Measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, the earthquake occurred 16 km north-northwest of Sagaing, near Mandalay, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was initially identified at a depth of 10 km, located at 22.01 degrees North latitude and 95.92 degrees East longitude.
Tremors were also felt in neighboring countries, including Thailand, China, and Vietnam. According to the latest updates from local media, at least three people have died in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, with over 80 others reported missing.
