Diamond League: Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen breaks long-standing 3,000m world record

Chorzów, Poland – Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a new world record for the 3,000 meters with a time of 7:17.55 on Sunday at the Chorzów meeting in Poland, part of the Diamond League.
The 23-year-old Norwegian, a double Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters at Tokyo and the 5,000 meters at Paris, broke the record of 7:20.67 previously held by Kenyan Daniel Komen.
“It feels special, amazing. I was hoping to challenge the world record here, but based on my training, I can never predict exactly what kind of time I am capable of,” Ingebrigtsen said.
“I would not have imagined I could run 7:17, though. At the beginning the pace felt really fast, but then I started to feel my way into the race and found a good rhythm,” he added.
