Contracts Signed for Phase One of Algeria’s “Baladna” Powdered Milk Production Project

ALGIERS – Contracts for the first phase of the integrated agri-food project for milk powder production “Baladna-Algeria” in Adrar (1543-km south of Algiers), an investment of USD3.5 billion, were signed on Monday, according to Algeria Press Service (APS).
A total of 14 contracts, with a value of more than USD500 million, were signed between the company Baladna-Algeria and major companies operating in the fields of agricultural technology and production line supply, irrigation systems, water drilling, iron supply and metal structures, in addition to engineering firms specialising in project management, topographical surveys, geotechnical studies and environmental impact assessments.
The companies involved include the German GEA Technologies, a leader in the manufacture of dairy production lines and automated milking systems, which will be responsible for the design of the powdered milk plant and cattle farms, according to specifications that allow, among other things, the construction of a drying unit with a height of 40 metres.
The company UCC – UrbaCon Trading and Contracting will be responsible for constructing the factory’s metal framework in accordance with current quality and safety standards.
One of the contracts was concluded with the Qatari company EHAF, a prominent engineering consultancy, for the development of architectural plans for all project infrastructure.
Turkish AFKO and American Valmont will supply advanced irrigation systems, adapted to local climatic conditions.
Project management and coordination of its various phases will be handled by the international company DG Jones and Partners, while the two companies DANDOUN and CINDYRIS will carry out technical studies and planning implementation.
Algerian company EFORHYD will be responsible for drilling water wells, while the companies Genie Hydrique and Star Filtre will supply casing pipes for water drilling.
The company Condor-Travocovia will supervise the construction of the second base camp for operational teams, and RedMed will build the first base camp, ensuring optimal and secure living and working conditions.
The National Rural Development Study Office (BNEDER) will be responsible for preparing the technical studies required for the project.
