China’s Vice President Meets Elon Musk Ahead of Trump’s Inauguration

China’s Vice President Han Zheng held a high-profile meeting with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, signaling Beijing’s intent to strengthen China-US economic ties ahead of US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Han welcomed Musk, the Tesla CEO, emphasizing opportunities for American businesses in China’s expanding market. Musk, along with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, is set to join the Trump administration as co-chief of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency.
During his US visit, Han also met Vice President-elect JD Vance to discuss bilateral and global relations. Highlighting a recent conversation between Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping, Han stressed the importance of implementing shared strategic goals to foster stable and sustainable China-US relations.
Both leaders agreed on advancing cooperation, a sentiment echoed in Han’s discussions with US business representatives, where he praised their role in supporting mutual economic interests.
Han underscored China’s commitment to economic reform and opening up, aiming to create a more business-friendly environment. The Chinese ambassador to Washington, Xie Feng, noted that closer cooperation between the two nations would benefit both their citizens and the global community. With economic collaboration at the forefront, the engagements highlight efforts to stabilize relations as Trump prepares to take office.
