Brazil Partners with China’s SpaceSail for Satellite Internet Expansion

Brazil has signed a groundbreaking agreement with China’s SpaceSail, a direct competitor of Elon Musk’s Starlink, to provide satellite internet services across the country. SpaceSail, which currently operates 40 satellites, plans to launch 648 more within the next 14 months and aims for a constellation of 15,000 satellites by 2030.
“We are entering into this agreement so that they can offer this service as soon as possible, provided they comply with all laws and regulations,” stated Brazilian Communications Minister Juscelino Filho, emphasizing the importance of adhering to local standards while accelerating internet access in remote areas.
Additionally, SpaceSail has signed a memorandum of understanding with Brazil’s state-owned Telebras, allowing the Chinese company to use Telebras’ infrastructure, including data centers and fiber-optic networks. Telebras President Frederico Siqueira Filho highlighted the exploratory nature of this partnership, describing it as a step toward evaluating the feasibility of a long-term collaboration.
