Austrian Journalist Highlights Sahrawi People’s Struggle for Self-Determination, Independence

A documentary investigation by Austrian journalist Olivia Wimmer has shed light on the Sahrawi people’s struggle and their long liberation journey toward self-determination and independence.

The field-based documentary, broadcast by Austrian Radio, retraces more than half a century of Sahrawi resistance. Wimmer focused her work on the Sahrawi refugee camps, which she visited several times to prepare the report. She highlighted daily life in the camps, the resilience of Sahrawi women, and the revolution’s efforts to empower them politically, while also giving special attention to the younger generations—documenting their struggles, suffering, and aspirations for freedom and return to their homeland after independence.
