Arkab Represents Algeria at UNIDO Conference in Riyadh

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, will represent Algeria at the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which will be hosted in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, from November 23 to 27.

This edition is distinguished as it transforms into the “Global Industry Summit – GIS 2025,” with the participation of heads of states and governments, ministers and high-ranking officials, alongside senior leaders of international industrial organizations, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines said in a statement.

Arkab will head a high-level Algerian delegation that includes representatives from the hydrocarbons, mining, and industrial sectors, among them the Ambassador of Algeria to Austria, the Ambassador of Algeria to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Chairman of the National Agency for Mining Activities, in addition to senior officials from the relevant sectors, the statement said.

On the sidelines of the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Arkab will participate on Monday in a session entitled: “Unlocking the Potential of Clean Hydrogen through Investment and Innovation.” This session will highlight the growing role of clean hydrogen in supporting sustainable industrial development, with a focus on innovation, financing mechanisms, and the enhancement of interregional cooperation.

The session will also feature the official launch of UNIDO’s Global Clean Hydrogen Programme, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8), which will be implemented in nine partner countries, including Algeria.

The conference is one of the world’s leading platforms for shaping industrial policies, bringing together representatives from 173 member countries to discuss prospects for sustainable industrial development, digital transformation, green industry, the circular economy, and the enhancement of fair value chains, in addition to industrial cooperation with developing and middle-income countries. Participants will also discuss new mechanisms for financing industrial projects and programs, as well as developing solutions for technical cooperation and the exchange of expertise in managing major projects.

Algeria’s participation comes in the context of its efforts to strengthen its international presence and consolidate its position as a reliable partner in the fields of industry, energy, and mining, in line with the national strategy to diversify the economy, build a sustainable industrial base, and develop international partnerships based on mutual benefit. This participation also represents an opportunity to showcase Algeria’s experience in industrial transformation, the development of conventional and renewable energy sources, and the utilization of mineral resources, the statement added.

During his participation, Arkab will hold a series of bilateral meetings with ministers and government officials, as well as with heads of global companies and international organizations, to explore opportunities for cooperation in the fields of industry, mining, oil and gas production, technology transfer, financing, and the development of major infrastructure projects in Algeria.
