Algerian Presidential Election : Candidates focus on Building Strong Economy and Genuine local development

ALGIERS- The candidates for the Algerian presidential election on the fifth day of the electoral campaign, focused in their speeches on economic issues of concern to the citizens, stressing the need to build a strong economy, driven by a real local development.

The candidate of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), Youcef Aouchiche, in a local meeting, underlined that his programme’s priority was providing support “to the middle and vulnerable classes, badly impacted by the rising prices,” committing that if elected president he would take “immediate measures to preserve the purchasing power and the dignity of citizens.”

In an electoral local meeting, the secretary general of the National Liberation Front (FLN), Abdelkrim Benmbarek, said that the independent candidate, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who was making sure that all regions of the country benefited from the same development opportunities, would revise the municipal and provincial codes to give local elected official “more prerogatives.”

The condidate of the movement of society for peace (MSP) said, during a popular meeting, that his program includes “the revision of the administrative division and the abolition of sub-prefectures” which he considers to be a bureaucratic body hampering development. underscored the importance of “creating a ministry of planification and perspective, so as to elaborate development plans and ensure the equitable distribution of wealth.” He unveiled his economic approach is based on “the execution of megaprojects in the sectors of agriculture, industry, energy, transport, health and services.”
