Algerian President: The Absence of an Arab Role Has Paved the Way for Foreign Interventions

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, delivered on Saturday the message from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the Arab Summit proceedings.

In his message, President Tebboune highlighted that the Arabs’ central cause is facing “liquidation schemes,” as the Israeli occupation persists in imposing its absurd vision of peace, which is “a peace conceived solely on its own terms, shaped by its whims, and driven by its ambitions.”

“It is a peace built on the ruins of the Palestinian cause; a peace that deprives neighboring nations of the most basic foundations of security, stability, and reassurance; a peace that guarantees it absolute dominance, without oversight, accountability, or challenge,” the message read.

President Tebboune also noted that the situation in several Arab nations is rapidly deteriorating—on the security, political, and economic fronts—amid escalating foreign interference aimed at creating divisions among the people of individual nations and within the broader Arab “ummah”.

“A new international climate is emerging, threatening everyone without exception, amidst a shift toward erasing the foundations of the modern international order and solidifying the logic of power dominance,” he said.

In this regard, the Algerian president emphasized that such circumstances must bring to the forefront of shared priorities the urgent need to reform the Arab League, as it was founded in a different era, under different circumstances, and within a different regional context. Accordingly, this highlights the necessity of adapting it to the new and unprecedented challenges.

President Tebboune stressed the need to reinforce Arabs’ unity around their central cause, saying that “defending this cause is not an act of generosity or goodwill on our part, but rather a fulfillment of a historical trust entrusted to the Arab ummah, and a legal, moral, and civilizational responsibility shared by all of humanity.”

“We are called upon to show greater solidarity with our brothers in Lebanon and Syria, as the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of these two countries remain an integral part of the broader issue of security and stability in the entire Middle East,” he added.

Moreover, the president highlighted the pressing need to make up for the missed efforts, initiatives, and attempts to resolve the ongoing crises in Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia, noting that “the absence of an Arab role had opened the door to foreign interventions, which, without legitimate justification, have compromised the present and future of these suffering Arab nations.”

“These are the foundations upon which Algeria has based its commitment to its Arab mandate in the United Nations Security Council,” President Tebboune said, adding, “As we continue to honor this mandate in its second and final year, we hope that we have succeeded in raising the concerns and aspirations of our ummah, and in defending its hopes and ambitions with full dedication, integrity, and sincerity.”
