The International Conference Center in Algiers hosted a special ceremony on Tuesday to honor the winners of the 2024 Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Development Award. The award was granted to a housing project in Tipaza, featuring 169 residential units integrated with comprehensive service facilities.
The award ceremony took place during the 8th Arab Housing Conference, held under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The award was presented by Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector of the Arab League, Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki.
This year’s award focused on the theme “Authentic Arab Housing with Identity,” aiming to highlight the cultural and architectural heritage of Arab and Islamic civilizations. It seeks to preserve, enrich, and develop this legacy while encouraging creativity and competition among Arab architects, engineers, and designers. The initiative also aims to inspire younger generations to explore Arab-Islamic architectural principles and innovate within this framework.
On the sidelines of the awards ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Algeria’s National Applied Research Center for Earthquake Engineering and the Arab Center for Disaster Risk Prevention and Mitigation. The agreement aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and cooperation, enabling Algeria to offer its expertise in earthquake-resistant construction and seismic research to other Arab countries.
