Algerian FM Engages in Talks with African Counterparts in Addis Ababa

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions on Wednesday in Addis Ababa with several African counterparts during his participation in the Executive Council meeting of the African Union (AU), as reported by the ministry.

Attaf met with Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration; Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation; and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Additionally, he engaged in talks with Kacou Houadja Leon Adom, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration; Albert Shingiro, Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation; Lejone Mpotjoane, Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations; and Taher Al-Baour, the Minister in charge of managing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Libya.

The conversation between Attaf and his Egyptian counterpart focused on preparations for upcoming high-level bilateral meetings, addressing issues raised at the AU, and coordinating efforts for the extraordinary Arab Summit dedicated to developments concerning the Palestinian cause.

In his discussions with Mozambique’s Foreign Minister, Attaf explored ways to maintain the positive momentum in their bilateral relations and exchanged views on matters of mutual concern at the continental level.

While meeting with his Ghanaian counterpart, the minister reviewed recent developments in the regional context affecting both countries and sought ways to bolster bilateral cooperation and enhance joint coordination on regional and international issues.

Moreover, Attaf discussed potential initiatives with his Ivorian counterpart aimed at revitalizing the relationship between their two nations, particularly in the economic sector.

His meeting with the Burundian Foreign Minister served as an opportunity to discuss the implementation of practical measures agreed upon during the Minister of State’s visit to Bujumbura last December, which are intended to revitalize bilateral cooperation and activate its mechanisms, according to the statement.

With Lesotho’s Foreign Minister, Attaf examined prospects for strengthening bilateral relations and continued support for just causes across the African continent.

In discussions with the Libyan Minister in charge of managing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both parties reviewed agenda items for the Executive Council and AU summit, along with various issues related to bilateral cooperation, the statement concluded.
