The National Agency for Health Security (ANSS), led by Professor Kamel Sanhadji, is participating in the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) of the World Health Organization (WHO), currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. The assembly’s theme is “One World for Health,” as stated by the ANSS.
According to the statement, “In the context of international efforts to safeguard global health, the 78th session of the World Health Assembly will take place in Geneva from May 19 to 27, 2025, under the theme ‘A United World for Health.’ This session will feature participation from Professor Kamel Sanhadji, the President of the National Agency for Health Security (ANSS), who will be part of a high-level official delegation representing Algeria.”
This assembly marks “a significant milestone in strengthening global health security, particularly through the anticipated adoption of the international pandemic agreement, resulting from extensive multilateral negotiations that have achieved a historic consensus among member states,” the release notes.
Discussions during this session will also focus on several priority health issues, including the impacts of climate change on health, mental health, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and tobacco control, underscoring the diverse challenges faced by public health policymakers.
The pandemic agreement is a component of “ongoing global efforts aimed at prevention, supporting proactive public health policies to combat tobacco use, obesity, pollution, and trans fats,” the statement further explains.
Additionally, it highlights that “discussions will also emphasize WHO’s initiatives to develop universal health coverage, enhance human capacity, improve pharmaceutical supply chains, establish the Global Health Academy for international health skills training, and bolster its response to health emergencies worldwide.”
