Algeria : Over 26 Quintals of Cannabis Seized at Morocco Borders in One Week

Attempts to introduce over 26 quintals of processed cannabis across the borders with Morocco were thwarted during operations carried out last week across various military regions by combined detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA), in coordination with security services, according to an operational report released by the PNA on Wednesday.

“As part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and fight all forms of organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out numerous operations between December 3 and 9, 2025, yielding significant results that reflect the high level of professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our Armed Forces across the entire national territory,” said the source.

As for the fight against terrorism, “PNA detachments captured ten (10) individuals providing support to terrorist groups during separate operations across the national territory.” According to the same source, “combined PNA detachments, in coordination with various security services, intercepted fifty-nine (59) drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce twenty-six (26) quintals and fifteen (15) kilograms of cannabis across the border with Morocco, during operations across several military regions under the fight against drug trafficking. They also seized nineteen (19) kilograms of cocaine and 658,455 psychotropic tablets.” In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi and Djanet, PNA detachments arrested 276 individuals and seized 28 vehicles, 299 generators, 221 jackhammers, 3 metal detectors, as well as quantities of raw gold ore and stones, and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations.

Similarly, 15 other individuals were arrested, and authorities seized one (1) Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, 5 hunting rifles, 6,570 litres of fuel, along with 7.5 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation, during separate operations.” On another front, the Coastguards thwarted irregular migration attempts along the national coastline and rescued 392 individuals who were aboard makeshift boats, while 351 illegal migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the national territory.”
