Algeria Officially Joins ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly as Sole Observer Member

ALGIERS – Algeria has officially joined the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) as its sole observer member, marking a significant milestone for parliamentary diplomacy, while reflecting the ongoing momentum of Algerian foreign policy under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s People’s National Assembly said in a statement.
This membership was officially confirmed on Saturday during a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), on the sidelines of the annual session of this parliamentary organization.
A delegation from the People’s National Assembly, headed by its Vice-Speaker Mondher Boudène—acting on behalf of the Assembly Speaker, Ibrahim Boughali—participated in the ceremony, alongside Algeria’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Abdelhafid Bounour, the source added.
“This new achievement adds to the accomplishments of Algerian parliamentary diplomacy within a short period, following the acceptance of the People’s National Assembly last year as an observer member of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino),” the statement said.
This also falls within the framework of “aligning parliamentary diplomacy with the dynamic trajectory of Algerian diplomacy under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, especially following Algeria’s signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), reflecting the unity of vision and integration between official and parliamentary diplomacy,” the statement added.
