Algeria, Mauritania Sign Defense Cooperation Agreement Amid Growing Regional Challenges

The Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the Algerian National Army, Army General, Saïd Chanegriha recieved The Mauritanian Minister of Defense, Retired Persons and Martyrs’ Children Affairs, Hananna Ould Sidi, who is on an official visit to Algeria leading a high-level military delegation.
The welcoming ceremony began with the salute to the national flag, followed by a military formation representing the various branches of the People’s National Army honoring the guest. The meeting was attended by senior Algerian defense officials, including the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, Force Commanders, department heads, and central directors, as well as members of the Mauritanian delegation. Discussions focused on the evolving security situation in North Africa and the broader African continent, alongside ways to strengthen military cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
In his address, General Chanegriha welcomed the Mauritanian delegation and highlighted the deep historical, geographical, and cultural ties between the two countries. He emphasized the strategic importance of Algerian-Mauritanian relations and the need to intensify joint actions based on dialogue, coordination, and experience-sharing. He affirmed Algeria’s commitment, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to deepen cooperation with Mauritania, particularly in the security domain, as both countries face common geopolitical and economic challenges.
Minister Henana Ould Sidi, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the visit and praised the strong ties of brotherhood and good neighborliness between Algeria and Mauritania. He also commended Algeria’s leadership role in promoting peace in the region. At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties signed a defense cooperation agreement, followed by the Mauritanian minister’s signing of the guestbook at the ANP headquarters.
