Albanian Parliament Confirms Rama for Fourth Term as PM

Albania’s parliament on Thursday confirmed Edi Rama for a fourth consecutive term as prime minister, after his Socialist Party won a majority in May’s elections.

Rama, the sole candidate for the post, secured 82 of the assembly’s 140 votes. He pledged to accelerate Albania’s accession to the European Union by 2030, calling it the central objective of his new mandate.

“EU membership in 2030 will be the cornerstone of this term,” Rama told lawmakers, stressing that reforms would be guided by the need to integrate into the bloc.

As part of a transparency drive in public procurement, Rama last week proposed the use of an artificial intelligence tool, Diella, to manage state tenders. In a video address, the program said it would assist officials rather than replace them.

Opposition parties have questioned the constitutionality of his reappointment and warned of potential new risks.
