Three Algerian cities have been selected to jointly host the inaugural edition of the African School Sports Games, scheduled for next August, as confirmed on Tuesday by the Algerian Federation for School Sports (FASS).
The chosen cities are Constantine, Annaba, and Skikda. FASC President Abdelhafid Izem noted that no fewer than 22 sports disciplines will be featured during these games.
In preparation for this continental event, a delegation from the FASS, led by its president, recently conducted an inspection visit to the three selected cities, according to Izem.
He expressed satisfaction with the condition of the venues designated for both competitions and athlete accommodations, while recommending some renovation work on certain infrastructures to ensure they are fully prepared for this continental school event.
Furthermore, he mentioned that a report detailing these findings would be submitted to the relevant ministries for necessary action.
Izem indicated that these games would serve as a precursor for participants heading to the African Youth Games and the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
In this context, the FASS recently organized a seminar in Oran, which brought together presidents of school leagues from all provinces along with their technical directors to discuss effective strategies for developing school sports in Algeria. This meeting was described as a “resounding success” by the FASS president.
