Afghanistan, Pakistan Agree to Extend Ceasefire After Talks in Istanbul

Afghanistan and Pakistan agreed Thursday to extend the ongoing ceasefire following talks mediated by Turkey and Qatar.
“The meetings were held from October 25 to 30 in Istanbul, with the participation of representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Afghanistan and Pakistan, aiming to strengthen the ceasefire reached earlier this month in Doha under the same mediation,” the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday in a statement quoted by media outlets.
The same source stated that “the parties reached a consensus on continuing the ceasefire,” adding that “additional implementation principles will be discussed and finalized at a high-level meeting scheduled for November 6 in Istanbul.”
Delegations also agreed to establish a monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure peace is maintained and to provide for sanctions against any party violating the agreement.
Turkey and Qatar praised the constructive contributions of Afghanistan and Pakistan to the process, reaffirming their commitment to continue supporting efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability.
