“Four Days in Occupied Western Sahara”: U.S. Documentary Exposes Sahrawi People’s Suffering

GENEVA — During the ongoing session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, a powerful documentary by American journalist Amy Goodman, host of the globally renowned news program Democracy Now!, was screened on Sunday. Titled Four Days in Occupied Western Sahara, the film brings urgent attention to the plight of the Sahrawi people under Moroccan occupation.

The documentary breaks through the tight media blackout imposed by Moroccan authorities on the occupied territories. Goodman and her team managed to enter the region despite heavy restrictions, offering a rare and intimate view into Africa’s last colony. The footage presents compelling testimony from Sahrawi activists who have endured enforced disappearance, torture, and systemic human rights violations.

The film also exposes the Moroccan administration’s deliberate policy of barring international journalists, human rights defenders, and global organizations from accessing the occupied areas—further deepening the isolation of the Sahrawi population. Its screening at the UN Human Rights Council signals growing international concern over the continued occupation and the silencing of Sahrawi voices.
