The President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, commended Slovenia’s stance on the Western Sahara issue, emphasizing its commitment to a solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination. His remarks came during a joint press statement with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, as part of his official state visit to Ljubljana.
President Tebboune welcomed Slovenia’s support for a United Nations-supervised process aimed at organizing a referendum to determine the future of Western Sahara. He praised the Slovenian government’s “principled and courageous” stance, calling it a model for respecting international legitimacy and the inalienable rights of peoples under occupation.
In the same context, Tebboune lauded Slovenia for being the first European nation to recognize the State of Palestine, describing the move as “a great honor.” President Musar, for her part, reiterated her country’s firm position in favor of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, stressing the importance of upholding international law in both Western Sahara and Palestine.
