Algerian Cabinet Approves New Mining Law

ALGIERS — The Algerian Cabinet, during its meeting on Sunday, chaired by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, approved a draft law regulating mining activities.

According to the Cabinet statement, “The draft law regulating mining activities was approved, taking into account a set of regulations and guidelines.”

In this context, President Tebboune highlighted the strategic importance of the mining sector for the country, which requires the provision of modern means to develop and monitor this vital sector.

He further directed the “introduction of technological advancements and scientific solutions while eliminating bureaucratic obstacles in exploration and exploitation processes, considering the country’s resources in the mining field, such as marble.”

In this regard, President Tebboune ordered “the preparation of a comprehensive vision to identify the most effective ways to increase investment in this sector, through new, more in-depth studies that secure the future for upcoming generations,” as well as “excluding the exploitation of certain rare-earth minerals from current investments, considering them as the heritage of future generations.”
