Kremlin: EU’s Military Spending Surge Based on “Illusory Threat” from Russia

The Kremlin has criticized the European Union’s decision to increase military spending, calling it a reaction to an “illusory threat” from Moscow that will ultimately harm European economies.
On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded to the EU leaders’ recent commitments to bolster European defense, warning that the move would push Europe’s economy into a pre-crisis state.
Speaking to the Russian news agency TASS, Peskov stated that “a militaristic approach now dominates Europe,” arguing that higher military budgets will lead to severe economic consequences for European citizens.
“The increase in defense spending has already placed the European economy in a highly uncomfortable zone,” Peskov remarked. “A further surge in military expenditures will have a deeply negative impact and lead to further economic deterioration.”
