11 December 1960 Demonstrations Embodied Algerian People’s Cohesion, Boughali

ALGIERS-The Algerian President of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, affirmed on Wednesday, in Algiers, that the demonstrations of 11 December 1960 embodied the cohesion of the Algerian people and the rallying of all its components to the Liberation Revolution.

In an opening speech during the conference organized by the Lower House on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the 11 December 1960 demonstrations, Boughali said that “these demonstrations embodied the cohesion of the Algerian people and its rallying behind the leaders of the Revolution, thus reinforcing the series of achievements realized since its inception on the military, political, media, diplomatic, cultural, artistic, and sporting levels and imposing on the colonizer the choices proclaimed in the 1st November Declaration.”

These demonstrations greatly contributed to the “internationalization of the Algerian cause” and to the “recognition by the international community of the right of colonized peoples to self-determination and independence,” recalled Boughali, hailing the contribution of various categories of the Algerian people to the success of the Liberation Revolution.

He particularly mentioned the role of children in transmitting information and messages between the Mujahedeen and militants.

The commemoration of the 11 December 1960 demonstrations is “an opportunity to renew the solemn commitment to remain faithful to the principles for which the martyrs sacrificed themselves and to continue building a strong Algeria attached to its positions in favour of all just causes in the world,” said Boughali.

Adding that “the spirit of the glorious Revolution of November 1st and the echo of the 11 December 1960 demonstrations must remain an inexhaustible source of inspiration encouraging our generations to work for the comprehensive renaissance that befits the greatness of Algeria and its people.”

On this occasion, “we bow with deference to the memory of our valiant martyrs from whom we draw new energy to meet current and future challenges, while renewing our solemn commitment that Algeria remains the homeland of freedom and dignity and a homeland that brings together all its children who strive to raise its flag high among nations,” said Boughali.
